Overview

Are you passionate about AI/ML and have hands-on experience in practical applications? Join us in revolutionizing the energy industry! We're forming a special task force to identify efficiency needs from various perspectives and develop cutting-edge solutions using AI and data management. Be a part of Project NOVA (Next-gen Optimization with Visionary AI) and work directly with our CEO and senior leadership team, enjoying full freedom to innovate.
This posting covers three engineering tracks within Project NOVA — Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial/Process — each helping bridge the gap between engineering and AI innovation. As an AI & ML Intern, you'll apply your technical expertise to guide model selection and ensure AI solutions meet real-world engineering needs. Candidates should indicate their preferred track(s) when applying.

Your Tasks:

Across all tracks, interns will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify AI/ML opportunities and gather data requirements.
  • Design, build, and deploy AI/ML models.
  • Analyze large datasets to extract insights, trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
  • Document development processes, methodologies, and results for project reports.
  • Present findings to stakeholders using visualizations and reports.
  • Stay current with AI/ML advancements and bridge engineering and AI requirements.

Areas of Focus
In addition to the core responsibilities above, each track carries track-specific work:
Mechanical Engineering

  • Foundational understanding of finite element analysis — structural dynamics, modal analysis, eigenvalue problems, and mode shapes.
  • Proficient in Python with hands-on experience using NumPy and SciPy for numerical data processing.
  • Experience with 3D visualization libraries — PyVista, Matplotlib, or Plotly.
  • OpenFOAM or fluid-structure interaction experience is a bonus but not required.

Electrical Engineering

  • Apply AI/ML techniques using Azure Machine Learning.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud platforms.
  • Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone).

Industrial / Process Engineering

  • Analyze production and operational processes to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks.
  • Assist in designing AI/ML algorithms to optimize industrial processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ability to translate customer needs into technical specifications.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Process Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or Java; solid coding experience required.
  • Experience with AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate real-world engineering needs into technical specifications.
  • Applicants must submit their GitHub profiles alongside resumes.
  • Please indicate your preferred area(s) of focus (Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Industrial/Process) in your application.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of optical current measurement technology and sustainable energy transmission in an innovative company
  • You will work in a motivated team on forward-looking projects and gain insights into the latest technologies
  • Support from experienced professionals in handling the latest measurement technology
  • An hourly rate of pay of CAD $22 - $30.
