Description

Our client, a growing Winnipeg-based manufacturing organization, is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join its Engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity to build your engineering career through hands-on involvement with mechanical products throughout the full development lifecycle from initial design and prototyping through testing and production.

You’ll support mechanical design assignments, create and refine designs, build and evaluate prototypes, and participate in testing activities within an onsite engineering environment. Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you’ll continue developing your technical capabilities while contributing to real products and engineering projects.

As your experience and capabilities grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility and see your work progress from an idea on screen to a finished product in production.

Why This Role?

Our client designs, engineers, and manufactures innovative technology and mechanical systems for the transportation sector. Continued growth has led to significant investment in its people, manufacturing capabilities, engineering resources, and product development operations.

The organization is expanding its manufacturing capabilities and investing in enhanced R&D equipment, tooling, technology, and infrastructure to support continued product innovation.

For an early-career engineer, this provides an opportunity to join a growing organization where you can gain practical experience, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to the development of products used in real-world applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Support mechanical design assignments for products, components, and assemblies under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Create and revise 3D models, assemblies, production drawings, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Apply product requirements, GD&T, and design-for-manufacturing principles with appropriate technical guidance.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes and support verification and validation testing.
  • Assist with onsite and longer-term testing activities, documenting results and communicating findings.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations by gathering information, evaluating results, and contributing potential solutions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support design changes and the transition of products into manufacturing.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate technical feedback into designs and documentation.

What You Bring

  • A hands-on approach to mechanical design and a natural curiosity about how things work and how they can be improved.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to investigate technical challenges and learn from experienced team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in designs, drawings, documentation, and testing.
  • An interest in building and evaluating prototypes and gaining practical experience with mechanical testing and validation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Approximately 2–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing, or a related engineering environment. Relevant co-op or internship experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software, including 3D modelling, assemblies, and production drawings.
  • Foundational knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and design-for-manufacturing principles.

What You Can Expect

Our client is continuing to invest in the workplace, technology, and talent that will support its next stage of growth. Employees have access to modern engineering and manufacturing resources along with opportunities to develop professionally as the organization expands.

The overall compensation package includes:

  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and market rates.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
  • Health spending support.
  • Employer-supported retirement savings.
  • Generous vacation and paid sick time.
  • Paid holiday closure over the year-end period.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional personal appointments and commitments.
  • Company-sponsored training and professional development opportunities.
  • Access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Employee events, activities, and additional workplace perks.

Build Your Engineering Career

This opportunity is well suited to an early-career Mechanical Engineer who wants more than a desk-based design role. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, participate in prototyping and testing, and see your designs progress into production.

If you’re looking to strengthen your mechanical design skills while gaining hands-on product development and manufacturing experience, we’d like to hear from you.
