Lead Hand - Utilities & Infrastructure Construction

Edmonton, AB | Full-Time | Year-Round Employment

Build More Than Infrastructure. Build Your Future.

For over 40 years, JATEC has been connecting communities through underground utilities, fibre optic networks, street lighting, and highway sign infrastructure across Canada. The work we do today helps build the communities people live, work, and grow in for generations.

We're looking for an experienced Lead Hand who leads by example, takes pride in quality work, and is committed to helping crews work safely and efficiently. This position is ideal for someone ready to take the next step in their leadership journey while continuing to work alongside a skilled construction team.

If you're looking for the opportunity to mentor others, develop your leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Lead Hand, you will support the successful execution of utility and infrastructure construction projects by providing day-to-day direction, coordination, and support to field crews.

Reporting to the Foreman, you'll serve as a key link between leadership and field personnel, helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting heavy equipment operators and coordinating activities around equipment and excavation work
  • Monitoring the quality and productivity of crew activities
  • Helping maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in safe working condition
  • Mentoring junior employees, labourers, and apprentices
  • Supporting subcontractor coordination and daily work planning activities
  • Ensuring work is completed in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and safety standards
  • Performing other duties related to the trade, project, or crew being supervised

The Reality

We're upfront about what this job requires.

  • Work 8-10 hour shifts, 5-6 days per week depending on project requirements
  • Balance production expectations, quality standards, and safety requirements
  • Step into leadership responsibilities when the Foreman is unavailable
  • Address field challenges and support crew performance in real time
  • Lead by example and maintain professionalism under changing site conditions

If you enjoy helping others succeed, solving problems in the field, and being part of a team building essential infrastructure, you'll fit right in.
