Based out of any of our Ontario offices, the successful candidate will be reporting directly to RVA’s Vice President, Information Technology & Information Management.
Duties:
Digital Delivery Strategy
- Own and advance the firm’s digital practice roadmap, including CAD and BIM maturity, model-based delivery, common data environment, and asset-data capability, with defined sequencing and outcomes.
- Advise pursuit teams and practice leaders on digital delivery requirements in RFPs and client specifications, including BIM execution plans and ISO 19650 or client-specific information management requirements.
- Benchmark the firm’s digital delivery capability against peers and client expectations in the municipal, water and wastewater, transportation, and infrastructure sectors, and recommend investment priorities.
Engineering Application Portfolio and Standards
- Own the engineering application portfolio, including Autodesk AEC products, Bentley products, hydraulic and process modelling tools, and GIS, covering standards, configuration, upgrade cycles, and license management.
- Maintain CAD and BIM standards, templates, content libraries, and title blocks, and ensure they are current, documented, and consistently applied across offices and disciplines.
- Establish model and drawing quality management practices, including data integrity checks, model audits, and management of legacy content.
- Define digital deliverable quality control requirements with discipline leads, recognizing that engineering sign-off remains with the practitioners of record.
- Manage software vendor and reseller relationships, including renewals, support performance, and roadmap commitments.
AI and Emerging Technology in Engineering Practice
- Identify, evaluate, pilot, and scale AI and automation capability in engineering workflows, including design assistance, document and specification review, quantity and drawing extraction, model checking, retrieval over project history, and task automation.
- Operate within the firm’s AI governance framework, including the sanctioned tool list, generative AI policy and procedure, and AI deployment strategy, and bring proposals forward through that process.
- Assess emerging tools against professional obligations, practice requirements, documentation and record retention triggers, professional liability exposure, and restrictions on AI use.
- Validate vendor capability claims through structured evaluation prior to adoption.
- Build staff capability through training, written guidance, and a network of digital champions across offices and disciplines.
Automation, Data, and Integration
- Direct development of automation that reduces repetitive production effort, using Dynamo, LISP, .NET and other APIs, PowerShell, Power Platform, and scripted model and data auditing.
- Collaborate on standards for documentation, version control, testing, support, and retirement of internally developed tools.
- Work with the IT/IM team to enhance integration between engineering tools and core business systems, linking corporate datasets.
- Ensure engineering content is created and stored in a manner that supports the firm’s managed content platform, retention obligations, and downstream search and retrieval.
Leadership
- Lead, develop, and set Digital Practice priorities.
- Manage the Digital Practice budget, including software licensing, training, and initiative expenditure.
- Lead the CAD/BIM process improvement committee.
- Represent Digital Practice to leadership, practice leaders, and project managers, and report on capability, adoption, and results.
- Other related duties as assigned/required and appropriate to this position.
Qualifications:
Required
- Degree in engineering, or an engineering technology diploma with equivalent practice experience.
- Eight or more years of combined engineering delivery and technology experience, including at least three years in a leadership or digital practice role.
- Production experience in a consulting engineering, architecture, or construction environment, including development and checking of project deliverables.
- Good working knowledge of CAD and BIM platforms and standards including template, content, and reference management at an enterprise level.
- Familiarity with application of AI or advanced automation to professional or technical workflows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to executive audiences.
Preferred
- P.Eng., C.E.T., or equivalent professional designation.
- Experience in municipal infrastructure, water and wastewater, or transportation sectors.
- Familiarity with ISO 19650, BIM execution planning, and public-sector digital delivery specifications.
- Scripting or development capability in Dynamo, Python, .NET, PowerShell, or LISP sufficient to prototype and to review the work of others.
- Experience with enterprise content platforms, common data environments, or GIS integration.
- Exposure to AI governance, professional liability, or regulatory practice requirements in a licensed engineering context.
