Position: Senior Back End - Software Developer

Duration: 1 Year assignment (contract)
Client Location: Toronto (Onsite/Hybrid: 7.25 hours/day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday)
Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)

This position is provisionally Onsite/Hybrid, requiring 7.25 hours per calendar day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding breaks). Conditions may change based on organizational requirements and at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.

About the Engagement

Akkodis is seeking an experienced Senior Back End - Software Developer with extensive IBM Mainframe development expertise to support the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of enterprise applications within a large public-sector environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to modernization initiatives, system enhancements, database design, application integration, and ongoing production support while working closely with project teams, technical leads, business analysts, and infrastructure stakeholders.

Scope

  • Provide senior-level mainframe application analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation support for enterprise systems.

  • Analyze existing system architecture, code structures, databases, and interfaces to identify required enhancements and improvements.

  • Develop and maintain PL/I, IMS, DB2, batch, and Windows client/server applications in a large enterprise environment.

  • Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, DBAs, and technical teams to deliver system enhancements and integrations.

Assignment Deliverables

  • Conducting analysis of existing system architecture, logical design, physical design, and code structures.

  • Analyzing technical database requirements and coordinating required database changes with DBA and data management teams.

  • Producing detailed technical specifications in accordance with established standards.

  • Identifying technical risks, issues, and mitigation strategies.

  • Providing regular status updates on project progress and deliverables.

Expertise Required

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of experience writing mainframe PL/I transactions that process XML input and produce XML output and consume it.

  • Recent experience in using PL/I V4.5 or higher within the last 5 years.
    Expertise using file and database management tools (either File Aid V10.1 or higher, or IBM File Manager V13.1 or higher)

  • Experience with IMS DB V12 or higher (HALDB and DEDB) using the PLITDLI API.

· Experience with DB2 for z/OS V11 or higher.
Experience with z/OS V2.2 or higher.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting large-scale legacy modernization initiatives.

  • Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments.

  • Experience participating in complex integration and migration projects.
