Position Summary
Reporting to the BGC Albion Manager, the Youth Development & Program Coordinator leads BGC Albion’s youth development work in four areas: career development, education supports, skill development, and wellness. The role places a strong emphasis on serving Black youth, and on creating culturally affirming programs that respond to their strengths, experiences, and goals. The Coordinator builds partnerships that open doors for young people, grows and expands BGC Albion programming, and leads special projects as they come up. The Coordinator also oversees assigned youth workers, providing the direction, coaching, and support the team needs to achieve program goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Career development and employment readiness
• Plan and deliver career exploration, employment readiness, and leadership programming, including resume writing, interview preparation, workplace skills, and job search support.

• Support youth to explore post-secondary pathways, apprenticeships, skilled trades, and entrepreneurship.

B. Education supports
• Coordinate homework help, tutoring, literacy and numeracy support, and study skills programming.
• Support youth with school transitions, course selection, and post-secondary and scholarship applications.
• Work with schools, families, and caregivers to advocate for youth and address barriers to educational success, including those created by anti-Black racism.

C. Skill development and wellness
• Deliver programming that builds life skills, leadership, financial literacy, digital skills, and healthy relationships.
• Promote mental, emotional, and physical wellness through culturally relevant activities, workshops, and referrals.
• Create Afrocentric and culturally affirming spaces that celebrate Black identity, history, culture, and achievement.
• Follow ANS safeguarding, confidentiality, and duty-to-report requirements, and promptly escalate concerns to the Manager.

D. Program expansion and special projects
• Identify gaps in service and develop new or expanded programs that respond to the needs and interests of youth, especially Black youth.
• Lead special projects and initiatives as they come up, including planning, timelines, delivery, and reporting.
• Support the Manager in identifying funding opportunities and preparing funding proposals and reports.

E. Partnerships and community development
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, employers, post-secondary institutions, Black-led and Black-serving organizations, and community agencies.
• Liaise with other services where a young person needs additional or specialist support, and make appropriate referrals.
• Promote BGC Albion programs through community outreach, events, and approved communication channels.

F. Supervision of youth workers
• Provide day-to-day direction, supervision, and support to assigned youth workers, students, and volunteers to accomplish program goals.
• Assign tasks, coordinate schedules and program coverage, and set clear expectations for program delivery.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and in-house training, and role-model culturally responsive, anti-oppressive practice.
• Monitor staff performance and timesheets, provide input into evaluations, and report concerns to the Manager.
• Formal discipline, termination, compensation, hiring, time-off, and budget approvals remain with the BGC Albion Manager.

G. Monitoring, evaluation and administration
• Track participation and outcomes, including education and employment milestones, and gather feedback to improve programs.
• Complete monthly reports, maintain an up-to-date database, and submit HR and financial forms on time.
• Manage assigned program budgets in conjunction with the Manager.
