Description

We are looking for a bilingual Controller to join our client’s team in Ottawa, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This position is suited to a designated accounting specialist who brings strong leadership capability, advanced project accounting expertise, and a hands-on approach to financial oversight. The successful candidate will guide core accounting operations, support accurate reporting, and help strengthen financial processes across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily accounting activities while providing direction, coaching, and oversight to finance staff.

• Manage project accounting processes to ensure costs, revenue, and financial performance are tracked accurately across initiatives.

• Oversee month-end activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and timely preparation of financial results.

• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and ad hoc financial analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.

• Administer payroll-related financial processes and help maintain accuracy and compliance in associated records.

• Produce clear and reliable financial reports using accounting systems and reporting tools to support management requirements.

• Review account balances regularly and resolve discrepancies through detailed reconciliation and follow-up.

• Support the effective use of financial and business systems, including collaboration with teams when process or system updates affect accounting workflows.

Ideal Qualifications:

• Accounting designation with a strong foundation in financial management and controllership functions.

• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility.

• Demonstrated expertise in project accounting within a complex business environment.

• Fluency in both English and French, with the ability to communicate effectively in a workplace setting.

• Hands-on experience with accounting software, financial reporting tools, and systems such as ADP, CRM platforms, or similar applications.

• Strong working knowledge of budgeting, payroll, account reconciliation, and month-end close activities.

• Proven ability to analyze financial information, prepare ad hoc reporting, and support sound business decisions.
