As a Development Ops Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing cloud-based and desktop software applications within an innovative technology environment. You will support products that enable customers to visualize and interact with 3D models through virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Working across cloud infrastructure, web services, and desktop applications, you will ensure system reliability, security, and performance. You will collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to troubleshoot technical challenges and improve software delivery processes. This hands-on role combines software engineering, DevOps, cloud management, and technical documentation. You will have significant ownership over application maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and operational excellence.

Accountabilities:

Cloud infrastructure management: Maintain and optimize cloud-based infrastructure using AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring application availability, security, stability, and compliance with relevant platform policies.

  • CI/CD pipeline management: Maintain and improve continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or Buildkite, following established DevOps best practices.

  • Application maintenance and support: Maintain desktop and cloud-based software products, implement software fixes, patches, and updates, and ensure reliable application performance.

  • Technical troubleshooting: Collaborate with Customer Success to investigate customer-reported issues, identify root causes, and deliver effective technical solutions.

  • Software architecture analysis: Analyze existing product architectures and reverse-engineer systems to develop a comprehensive understanding of their components, integrations, and workflows.

  • Technical documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation covering system architecture, infrastructure configurations, deployment processes, and operational procedures.

  • Performance and security optimization: Execute regular security updates, software patching, and performance tuning to strengthen application reliability and protect systems.

  • Deployment process improvement: Support and continuously improve software delivery workflows, infrastructure automation, and deployment practices.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Infrastructure and Engineering teams to maintain operational standards and ensure smooth coordination across supported products.

  • End-to-end ownership: Take responsibility for ongoing software support, infrastructure maintenance, and operational reliability across multiple applications.

  • Requirements:

    • Professional experience: At least 5 years of software development experience, with practical exposure to DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and application maintenance.

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline. A Master's degree is considered an asset.

    • Cloud computing: Hands-on experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Knowledge of both platforms is an advantage.

    • Software development: Strong understanding of full-stack software architecture, including Go, JavaScript, and React.

    • Database technologies: Experience working with databases, particularly NoSQL solutions such as DynamoDB and MongoDB.

    • CI/CD expertise: Practical experience with Jenkins or Buildkite and familiarity with automated software delivery pipelines. Knowledge of Bitbucket Pipelines is an additional advantage.

    • DevOps technologies: Proficiency with Docker, Terraform, Linux, Git, and GitHub.

    • Application support: Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to understand, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve both desktop and cloud-based applications.

    • Additional technical skills (assets):

      • Experience with C# for desktop application development.

      • Knowledge of gRPC and Protocol Buffers (Protobuf).

      • Basic familiarity with the Unity game engine.

      • Experience with TestFlight and software installers.

      • Familiarity with Electron-based applications.

      • Knowledge of additional CI/CD tools and platforms.

    • Analytical abilities: Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and architectural analysis skills, with the ability to investigate complex systems independently.

    • Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Infrastructure, Engineering, and Customer Success teams.

    • Personal qualities: Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of technical responsibilities and working independently.

    • Benefits:

      • Competitive hourly compensation: CAD 45–50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

      • Remote work flexibility: Fully remote position based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

      • Contract opportunity: T4 employment contract.

      • Technical exposure: Opportunity to work on innovative VR and AR products involving 3D visualization, cloud technologies, and distributed software systems.

      • Professional development: Gain experience with modern cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, automation tools, and emerging technologies.

      • Collaborative environment: Work alongside multidisciplinary engineering, infrastructure, and customer-focused teams.

      • Meaningful ownership: Take responsibility for critical software products and contribute directly to their reliability, security, and continuous improvement.
