IT - AML Developer IV

We are seeking a highly accomplished IT - AML Developer IV for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Markham. In this role, you will take on a premier data science, analytics engineering, and technical data management capacity, specializing in building and optimizing transaction monitoring systems within complex anti-money laundering (AML) environments.

As a senior AML developer, you will bridge the gap between advanced data science, large-scale data wrangling, and regulatory compliance. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will conduct data quality assessments across cloud and relational database platforms, engineer customer segmentation models, execute scenario threshold settings, and automate data pipelines. This position demands a technical data authority with extensive SQL and Python expertise who can analyze massive datasets, debug complex queries, and deliver data-driven insights to support business strategies.

Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)

Contract Duration: 6-month contract (with potential for extension or conversion)

Responsibilities
Perform end-to-end analysis, design, and technical data management for anti-money laundering transaction monitoring systems.

Execute rigorous data quality checks on raw and curated datasets across Oracle and Azure platforms.

Conduct data mining, customer segmentation, scenario threshold setting, and model performance monitoring.

Develop, optimize, debug, and automate complex SQL queries and Python data pipelines within large-scale batch environments.

Maintain structured documentation and audit trails to support compliance, regulatory, and audit requirements.

Execute quality control procedures to evaluate interim monitoring solutions, identify coverage gaps, and support future-state implementations.

Partner with cross-functional business and technical teams to identify process improvements using supporting data models.

Translate complex analytical findings into actionable business insights and present results to internal and external partners.

Qualifications
Core Technical Requirements
Professional Experience: Minimum 8+ years of overall technical experience in data science, software development, or data engineering.

SQL Mastery: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience writing, optimizing, and debugging complex SQL queries within large batch environments.

Python Proficiency: Minimum 5+ years of active development experience using Python for data analysis and automation.

Data Wrangling & Analytics: Minimum 5+ years of experience in data exploration, data wrangling, data mining, and applying statistical techniques to solve business problems.

Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Preferred Experience & Assets
AML Domain Knowledge: Prior experience supporting Anti-Money Laundering (AML) transaction monitoring systems or financial crime detection.

Enterprise BI & ETL Tools: Hands-on experience with SAS, Informatica, or Tableau is considered a strong asset.

Financial Services Context: Background working within large data-driven financial institutions.

Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Communication & Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical data findings clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
