CONTROLLER

LANGLEY, BC

$115,000 - $135,000

About YAAT Group of Companies

Yard at a Time Group of Companies (YAAT) operates as a key partner within the materials supply division of the broader BM Group of Companies. The BM Group is a British Columbia based portfolio of complementary businesses serving the construction industry, with services spanning project management, construction support, materials supply, and development solutions. The materials supply portfolio includes ready mix concrete, precast concrete, and related building materials that serve residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. With established production facilities and a growing fleet, the group is well positioned to support projects of varying scale while maintaining a strong focus on reliability, quality, and service. In addition to concrete supply, the portfolio includes a precast manufacturing operation offering a broad catalogue of precast concrete products to meet diverse project requirements. The Controller role sits within the YAAT Group of Companies and is responsible for financial oversight across this materials supply group, working closely with operational leadership and the BM Group partnership.

About the Controller Role

The Controller will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the financial operations of multiple companies within the Materials Supply Segment of BM Group. As a trusted partner to ownership and operational leadership, this individual will be relied upon for their financial acumen, sound judgment, and ability to translate complex financial information into clear insight that supports strong business decision-making. The Controller will be accountable for ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and disciplined financial management across a multi-entity operating environment. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in construction and manufacturing accounting, a strong financial reporting capability, and proven leadership within a complex, fast-paced business.

This is a highly hands-on opportunity for a technically strong Controller who is energized by being close to the business. The Controller will operate at the centre of the day-to-day business, remaining deeply involved in accounting operations, supporting real-time decision-making, and providing practical financial leadership to the team. Success in this role will require someone who is detail oriented, understands the realities of an operating business, and can bring both rigor and responsiveness to the finance function.

The successful candidate will be highly intelligent, hardworking, and dependable, with the leadership presence to build credibility across the organization, while also being willing to roll up his or her sleeves and engage directly in the work. This is a role for a leader who leads by example, earns trust through action, and can build strong working relationships across the group. The Controller will work closely, not only with the finance team, but also with the owners, operational leaders, and colleagues across other businesses and branches within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

· Responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day accounting for the group of companies

· Management, oversight, and mentorship of up to 10 reports within the accounting team

· Communicate financial data and insights to the management team with respect to key organization decisions and business objectives

· Prepare and oversee consolidated financial reporting across the group of companies, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to ownership and leadership

· Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against forecast/budget for all divisions with the Segment

· Analyze and advise on cash flow, revenues, expenses, and balance sheet items

· Take an active role in completing necessary finance tasks

· Prepare and coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports

· Prepare and maintain financial metrics for reporting

· Ensure appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained

· Develop efficiencies with respect to system management within the administration team

· Review and assist in the preparation of month and year-end financial statements for both external and internal processes

· Assist in negotiating loan, leasing, and insurance agreements

· Ensure GST and other legislated taxes and assessments are reconciled and remitted.

Skills and Qualifications

· CPA designation and CPA BC member in good standing.

· 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.

· Experience in construction, manufacturing, materials supply, or another operationally complex, multi-entity environment.

· Strong financial analysis skills, with experience evaluating operating results, cash flow, profitability, revenues, expenses, and balance sheet performance, and translating findings into practical business recommendations.

· Experience with intercompany accounting and multi-entity financial reporting is an asset.

· Experience with inventory accounting, costing, and inventory control processes is an asset.

· Proven leadership capability, with experience managing, mentoring, and developing accounting staff in a hands-on environment.

· Comfortable working closely with ownership and operational leaders in a fast-paced business where responsiveness, accountability, and sound judgement are essential.

· Strong understanding of GST, statutory remittances, regulatory compliance, and corporate financial responsibilities.

· High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and personal accountability.

· Demonstrated work ethic, dependability, and willingness to remain hands-on while balancing strategic and operational responsibilities.

· Impeccable integrity and professionalism, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse range of personalities and backgrounds.

· Ability to provide timely financial insight, sound judgement, and practical recommendations that support informed business decision-making.

This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role within a locally owned growing materials supply organization. As Controller of the YAAT Group of Companies, you will play a central role in shaping financial discipline, supporting operational decision-making, and strengthening systems across a multi-entity business. The role offers meaningful exposure to ownership, a seat at the board table, and the opportunity to help shape the strategic and financial direction of the organization as it continues to grow and scale. Working collaboratively with the CFO of the wider BM group, you will contribute to key financial, operational, and strategic initiatives while partnering closely with experienced operational leaders in a practical, hands-on environment. For a finance professional who enjoys being close to the business, values accountability, and wants to make a tangible impact across a group of construction-focused companies, this role presents an exciting opportunity. Some travel locally to other offices will be required as part of the role to build relationships and develop a strong understanding of the various operations across the group.

Please submit your application through MNP’s official process. To ensure a fair and consistent search, candidates are asked not to contact Yard At A Time or the BM Group or its staff directly regarding this opportunity.
